About Suona Gang

Rooted in tradition,
playing towards new sounds.

Established in 2020 under the name Crazy Suona, Suona Gang places the suona at the centre of an adventurous ensemble practice. Moving between folk traditions, jazz and popular music, the group explores how inherited sounds can speak in the present.

Drawing on Taiwanese folk culture, the musicians reshape familiar material through unexpected instrumental combinations, humour and a restless sense of play. Their performances continue to open new possibilities for the suona across genres and on stage.

Music DirectorChun Chiang

One breath,
from the detail of a solo voice
to the breadth of an ensemble.

As Music Director of his primary ensemble, Suona Gang, Chun Chiang continues to bring composition and sheng performance into dialogue. Across chamber music, Chinese orchestra and cross-genre projects, the thinking of a composer informs his playing, while the experience of performance returns to the page.
